chopping drum loops?

fairly new to chopping drum loops from old vinyl etc.... how do u get that natural drummer feel when u chop them in small slices on each hit. i can chop them up perfectly but can't the mpc to give me the natural feel and sound of the loop. what should my realease be set on when im chopping melodies i usually set my release at 55 what should i do help please thanks in advance!!!

Its all about variation and dynamics. This is something I am learning myself instead of just using the same old drum machine synthetic beats. You have to mess around with swing settings. Use multiple samples for the kick, snare and hats like the upbeat and downbeat and so on. Nudge notes forward or back to loosen them up. Quantize some, play other parts live. Some people quantize the downbeat and play the rest out live, others the snare, you just have to experiment.

yea same here all of the chops that are generated are not going to be perfect to the nudging and adjusting the range of the region really helps.

remember too that even tho the chops are perfect the drummer who played it isnt so things arent going to line up perfectly or there will be gaps if you try to sequence them perfectly. The best way honestly is to keep messing with it until it sounds good. theres always undo
