Trouble playing sounds

wusup guys im having trouble playing sounds on my mpc 1000. example, lets a i record a drum pattern then i wanna add some piano on it i chop up a piano loop and when i start recording that over the drums its starts sounding distorted and somes times the drum pattern just goes away and all i hear is the distorted pianos when i hit the pads. sometimes all i hear is 1/4 of the piano sound i loaded on a pad when i record it over another pattern anyone got a solution or do i have a faulty mpc, and i have to return it for the second time now

are you recording them all on the same track (ie. overdub)?

if you are, put each sound on different tracks. if you dont and you play one note over the other it tries to play both sounds in the same midi tick and it may even overwrite it (hence why things dissapear). it doesnt work well. but if you layer them (ie. tracks), it wont do that. you CAN get phasing from similar bass sounds or other sounds but youd hear the difference.

edit: if you must do it all on the same layer, make sure timing correct is off so it doesnt mve all your notes to the same tick
