samples not playing back at correct speed

i'm a new mpc user and i'm sure this is a simple question to answer but whenever i sample any vocals or whatever and assign it to a pad if i then hit the pad the sample plays at what sounds like -50% pitch or slower.

is this something to do with the length of the sample because i'm just roughly guessing the time in seconds and then using stop when i'm done. so is the gaps on the start and end causing the sample to be stretched or something? or is there an option i need to change to get it to play the sample at the same pitch it was recorded at?

my samples are always in the right speed. but it is possible to adjust the
pitch of the sample after recording.

fiasco, could be you're loading samples which were created with a different sample rate than the MPC uses. (44.1 kHz) If you're loading samples from non-professionally created sample CDs they're often at disparate sample rates.

You say you're sampling vocals, etc yourself though. So no idea from me, really. Just saying there are reasons when you load from PC.

There is no stretching or anything else going on. Could be you've accidentally adjusted the tuning in Program mode or set the pad's tuning to be affected by a slider and knocked the slider by mistake.

Samples should play back as recorded immediately upon recording.

the setup for the recording is ->

turntable (phono out) -> (phono in) mixer (monitor out - stereo) -> (stereo in's L/R) mpc1000.

one thing i just remembered (i'm at work so the mpc isnt in front of me) but i think the sample plays ok when i play it before i decide to keep it.

sounds like its something i've managed to change (i like to play with settings ) i'll try those things you mentioned it might be.

One time I get the same....

It was because I used a 'program' where the precedent 'sample' were detune....
