looping samples/bpm advice

aight yall, well it's been a minute since i needed any help..been trying to figure out most of this shyt on my own, lol--for yalls sake..alas it seems ive hit a brick wall with this whole sample/looping thing. there's just one thing i can't figure out: let's say i've got a nice sample loop with the beggining/ends all trimmed up..now how do i loop this in a sequence, and detect the bpm so i can layer my drums over it? any tips or advice is appreciated!!

1, AND 2, AND, 3, AND, 4, AND 1, AND 2, AND 3, AND 4...
DONT FORGET THAT A SNARE SHOULD ALWAYS DROP ON AN EVAN NUMBER (2 OR 4). DO YOU HAVE AN KNOWLEDGE WITH DECKS??? IF YOU DO THIS CAN BE QUITE USE-FULL.

that was kinda vague dun..can you elaborate a little? nah, i dont know anything about "decks.." what are those?

but to answer your question... with your loop playing, hit the TAP TEMPO pad on where you would drop the snare on top of that loop... just tap along to your loop and the tempo/bpm will go changing along... it should give you a very close estimate... if it's too low, double the amount. record a 2 bar sequence or whatever with your loop playing on the first hit and just adjust the tempo manually as needed... should do the trick.

thanks man, i knew the tap tempo button played a role there! just hadn't heard it explained in-depth..i think get it now, one question though:

when you say "with my loop playing" do you mean with my sample loop playing, or with my sample actually looping..cause im still trying to figure out how to make it play in a loop..maybe im confused on how things work..if i just assign the sample loop to a pad, play it once and tap along w/the snares, will that be enough info for it to help detect the bpm for me?

yes... but you'll probably wanna hold the pad down so your sample is looping for a couple measures... so that you can tap along to more than just one bar... i guess you could say the BPM amount gets more perfect the more times you hit the tap tempo button.

but like i was saying... once you have a tempo... you should record a 2 bar sequence of just your loop played once right at the beginning of the first measure... then just let that play and this way you can go adjusting the tempo to find out where the sequence begins and ends perfectly along with your loop... does that make sense?
