Ok... about 3-4 years ago I started getting into the who production scene. I Have been djing 2 years prior. At my second job, a couple of workers hooked me up with reason and some other software. I went out and bought a mpc1k a month later. after two weeks i returned it because i figured i could do everything it did inside all my software (flippin idiot) which it can but the real creativity/fun/analog sound aspect really gets takin away. So last night i bought another.. I was going for the 500 cause of portability but got the 1k cause it was the "floor display" ( gotta love hookups) model for $700. Now i am sort of familiar with this machine except for the fact that somehow i keep losing internal memory. Or at least it seems that way. My first mpc i loaded with drums and samples with no prob. but this one says insufficient mem. The wierd part is i have had all my samples on yesterday and they all loaded fine and today i can only load half. I didnt make any songs/ sequences. do i really need to buy a hard drive and/or ram upgrade to use this machine? dropping that much cash you would expect it to work out of the box.. My original idea was a roland 404 or the mpc 500. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
PS : Sorry for such a long post.
