MY JOG WHEEL IS INSANE!!!

ok so...my jog wheel is crazy insane, everytime im tryn scroll somewhere it just starts jumping like crazy kinda like,

if im tryn to go from a to b, it jumps to c and i have to hold it carefully to get it on b!!

i though it was the actual knob, cus i bought a new one (my mpc was painted horribly, but thats another story), so i tried back the old one, and nope, same thing.

i know its the little job wheel rotater, so my question is??
is that thing hard to install??

its easy to change, hard thing for me was to get to it. theres some cables that sit pretty tight that needs to come loose, but take a knife or something to bend em out from the sockets, it will be cool just fiddle the fuggs.

once there you just need to desolder some pins to get the shyt loose and resolder the new one. i had never solder before and it was pretty easy, fugged it up abit couse some holes are so mutch bigger then the pins so you need a mountain of solder, but it worked fine.

sounds kinda tuff, i never have soldered before, only time i did it was when i put a new pad in, and came out not that good, but worked though.

As much as this sounds like a hardware issue, have you though about reinstalling the software??

Just a thought.

hmm.... do u mean take out the JJ OS and then put the akai back on, and then put the install the JJ OS again??????

okay so i tried that, and nope didnt work. all i got was a ugly akai os, man i had forgotten i looks so ugly, lol. and the harddrive kept on spinning! oh and i have a mac in the room, so when i ejected the flash drive, it wouldnt even let me get out of the usb thing!!!!! and to top it all off i had forgotten how to update!!! but i got i, i cool now

Those jog wheel encoders aren't hard to break. There's nothing supporting the wheel except the encoder itself which is a really poor design (like the original pads). I usually grasp and turn the wheel from the outside edges, not the top. Somebody posted a reinforcement hack using a 45rpm record adapter awhile back.

it is really annoying, i could never get what i want on the first knob turn, sucks... i gotta be careful to make sure i put SAVE ALL MEMORY and which folder ima load.

But yeah it is build pretty weak, ive taken my mpc apart more than a couple times, and was looking at it, how it was.
