Patch phrasing...

Ok... I get the general idea of what patch phrasing is for... Correct me if I am wrong, but it is used to speed up a sample without altering the pitch.... and/or changing the pitch without altering the speed...

Can it be used for both? Because I have a really nice sample that Im working with... I go into program and pitch up every chop by +3... it sounds so hot... until I try to sequence it... and it doesnt fit... there are those annoying gaps between my chops.... I know why... but I dont know how to fix it...

Can someone please help me with patch phrasing? I want this to stay at the tempo as my drums.... but with my pitch.... it's a little too fast.... I have tried patch phrase... but sh-it... i KNOW im doing it all wrong...

Patched Phrase is not Realtime Timestretch, it's Akai's excuse for Realtime Timestretch. It's just an auto slicing routine that adds or subtracts space between the phrase sample chops relative to sequencer tempo. There is no pitch manipulation and no automated time splicing w/patched phrase. Hence, you will always hear those gaps.

With the MPC, you're better off just chopping as small as possible and then changing the attack/decay values to smooth out the choppiness.

Yeah, I have found that when dealing with music samples, not samples of clean drumbeats, patch phrase works best if you don't change the tempo too many bpms from the original. 2 or 3 bpms up or down and you're fine. Anything more than that and it starts souding weird.

I feel you guys.... It seemed like a pain in the ass.... So I just stick with chopping it up in very little pieces like elekrik_muz said.... It makes more sense.... sheesh.... what'sup w/ Akai nowadays? Awesome hardware.. but the OS just sucks.... Thank god for The Japanese Jenuis....
