Just Got an mpc 1000, threw my computer out the window (for now)!
I have to say this machine kicks ass.
So now I'm wondering about drum rolls, how can I program a drum roll,
with volume, starting from silence to loud on the mpc 1000, i tried this in step edit (velocity) but was tedious, is there a better way to mix in a roll.

thanks in advance.

easy, hold down tap tempo, it's also the note repeat button

do that while playing the pads with the mpc in play, you'll see..

i guess what i meant was, if you have a drum roll or whatever, how do i fade in that drum roll with volume..up up and down again ( volume wise)
it was easier in cubase in the edit windows by taking the crosshair icon and making your fade in and fade outs, but how do you do that on the 1000?

thanks

Sounds like you need to mess with attack and decay.

I would use step recording for drumrolls. Push rec in step edit mode and use 16 levels to decrease or increase the velocity of every drumhit.

As long as you don't have Full Velocity turned on, you can vary the pressure you apply to the pad you're Note Repeating a drum roll with. This is the easiest, most realistic method for creating drum rolls. You may want to include a few non-quantized hits in for realism.

As someone said, the easiest way is with note repeat. But to create rolls from silence to máx velocity, you will need a velocity q-link modulation function, but mpc1k does not have. Anyway, if u wanna create rolls with more than 48 ppn, you need to use the step edit. It's not so tedious if u select 16 levels and TC in OFF. Start pressing pads from lower level and divide all hits you want to roll between 16 pads to create a regular progressive roll. Using attack and decay modulation can be usefull.

is not named "layer" instead of velocity?

On an earlier MPC, you could use the velo% to lower the track velocity to a point where the initial hits of the roll were zeroed out, but why exactly would one want silent hits?

And as I think noVa was insinuating, you can control the "velocity" (within 4 regions of velocity) by using the slider set to LAYER, so long as you set each layer at a different Lvl.

you never know they may add velocity,

considering the list on the mpc4000 update, im looking forward to a next big number update lol.

you should be able to assign the slider to note velocity which will work as a volume control as you enter notes into the sequence.
