question mark problem with bluebox (please help)

Ok guys I know you see this question alot, but please help with this question mark problem. I've been using the search function, but I havent found an answer that has really helped me. Could someone please explain to me in detail what I have to do to make the program I created with bluebox so it will work in the mpc. All the samples show up with a ? in front of them, and of course as you know already they dont play. Thanks in advance..

Your samples need to be the right file type to start.
All in WAV.

yes of course they are all in wav thats the way bluebox finds files threw wav.

when you save the program, it needs to be in it's own directory with all the
samples there with it.

when you load the program, you need to make sure you select WITH SAMPLES,
not PROGRAM ONLY.

Thanks man, but what do you mean by its own directory? I pulled numerous sounds from a lot of different kits. Does this mean I have to go through each kit and transfer each single sound to the mpc?.

yep.

you need to save them all in the same directory.

probably better to do this before you move the folder onto your MPC.

might take a while.... guess you'll know for next time!

this is part of the reason why i don't use 187... so much easier to build
programs on the MPC....

for me anyway.

You don't have to save them one by one. Just create the folder first, then use the SAVE ALL function in bluebox to save them all at once.

I only sat down with BlueBox once, but having to have all the samples in the same directory drive me nuts - it would be really nice if each sample you used in a program just used a fully qualified path. And the instructions seem to indicate that it should do this, but like you I found this doesn't work.

For example, I have a samples directory and within it I have all my different kits neatly sorted by folder. I'd like to be able to make new kits via BlueBox with say, some 808 samples, some 909, a few noises I made etc, without having to move or copy these samples.

Regardless, it's still a cool program and nice of the guy to give it away asking only for donations.

Maybe we just don't understand each other because to my knowledge, that's exactly what I do in Bluebox.

While I am in Bluebox, I select different samples from all over the place. All different folders. Then when I am done, I use the SAVE ALL function and Bluebox takes all the samples I used from all the different folders and copies them neatly into one folder so I can conveniently transfer them all at once to my mpc. How much easier can it get?

I really don't see why people are complaining, but hey... to each his own. I am very happy with Bluebox.

No, I hear what you're saying, and you're right it's not complicated - I just don't understand why the files have to be in the same location as the program file. The application already has the full path, so why not use it? Granted, even when you fully load up all for banks it's only going to take up about a meg of room. So it's really not a big deal, just bugs me that I get duplicate copies of these samples. But who knows, maybe he had a good reason for doing it that way.

Don't get me wrong, the guy is awesome for taking the time to write an application like this and then giving it away. And he put some cool features like the bulk load option. But I'm just a nerd and think about things like this!

Okay, gotcha.

After I make my new kit and transfer it to my mpc, I just delete the folder from my pc.

Anyway, I understand your complaint now. It's a little thing that's not even worth complaining about to me, but like I said, at least I do understand what you are saying now.

duplicate copies are the scourge of sampleheads the world over.

if i had a penny for everytime i've pointlessly duplicated a sample...

...i'd have a whole bunch of useless currency.
