blank screen repair

whats up everybody my screen just recently went out on my mpc 1000 and and i ordered a new from mpc stuff and it just came in today while taking the old one out i notice it have a black clip on the side of the screen where the white tape go into and the new one i oredered doesnt have this and when i try to turn the screen on there nothing coming on do this have anything to do with the white strip not being set into the screen correctly any advice or help is greatly appreciated thank you

You can either desolder the clip off of your old lcd and attach it to your new one. Or strip apart each strand one by one and solder to the holes where the strands would originally make contact. On the lcd there are 2 rows. If you start from one side of the cable (a single strand on either the left or right) it should line up with one the frist pins on the top or bottom row. Then go over one strand and that one will go to the next pin over but on the opposite row. Here's a terrible picture and I'm probably making this harder than it should be but this is the best I can explain it. If some one else can help YOU SHOULD.

The black lines where it says "cable" represent the single strands. The black squares represent the pins on the lcd where it says "lcd."

out of interest, what made you think the screen had failed? did you recently upgrade to the JJOS? if so, it could have been the contrast.

i had it tested at a shop and thats what they told me i also had to upgrade to the jjos

I think that Modnar is talking about checking the following re contrast after upgrading to JJ OS: -

1. [STOP] + DATA WHEEL ==> LCD contrast

2.Turn DATA WHEEL with [SHIFT] or [TAP TEMPO]
The amount of change increases 10 times.

Speaking of screen replacement, anyone know the pin assignment for the 1000 lcd? I was looking for some alternate 240 x 64 screen replacements to possibly change the color up a bit.

I could always open it up and look for clues.

i've looked into this before, and apparently the controller in the 1k is proprietary, and not compatible with anything else. can't harm in trying though...

sure but it would require dismantling your lcd screen which is no mean feat. (basically, what i'm saying is: you stab first!)

How do you invert it?

there's a polarising filter on top of the lcd glass, you can remove it and get another piece of polarising film and turn it until the display is inverted, then cut to size and re-assemble.

I just took it apart and it was alot easier than I expected. I have never seen a lcd screen in pieces before and from what I see the top layer is where the liquid is. And that's where the green layer is at and only sits on top of the board. So the filter is what makes it green?

no, the led's surface mounted to the pcb are what makes it green.
