Ive had my mpc 1000 since it first came out.Ive heard about buttons falling out, faulty pads, broken sliders and everything. Now im hearing the 1000's that ship now are better then the first generation.I was @ guitar center a couple weeks ago and i put my hands on the black 1000 pads and they felt so much better then the optimus prime pads.Tell u the truth i have no prob with my 1000.All my buttons are intact/sliders etc. but my pad 1 trips out a little bit for example if i slightly press pad1 it does double hits but besides that everything is fine.A buddy of mine got his 1000 right before they went black, he had his for 6ix months at that time and his shit was EFFED UP mode buttin was hangin out,the left and buttom arrow buttons were gone. Im suprised my 1000 is still up to par after hearing all these problems so people please take care of your equipment and dont bang on your pads like your pokin someones eye out.Im gonna make beats now BYE!!

the human body sheds its old cells and within years shares no matter with the being that was them previously

that's an exaggeration of what my mpc1000 (first generation) is now. i'm on my 3rd rotary controller, i've replaced the left operations board (qlinks), a number of tact switches, and of course the pads.

people please take care of your equipment and dont bang on your pads like your pokin someones eye out.

sorry, this is not the issue. if this was the issue, you'd see just as many broken pads in the mpc60, mpc3000, mpc2000, mpc2000xl, mpc4000, mpd16, mpd24, and mpc500.

the issue is faulty manufacture.
i call it Akai's "Inaba Shakedown" or the Akai "Inastomeric Shuffle"

I have the superman edition mp got it 2nd or mabye even 3rd hand, had it since 05 I only had to repair 1 of the tact switches. pad 13 is kinda wonky I have to press it harder than the others. But its still going strong.

no, not if you're happy. if you get to the point where it impedes your ability to make music, then get the akai pad fix and consider making it your last akai purchase.

ive got an orginal mp1k.

its pads are ok 1 is abit dodgy but reset the thresh and its ok. my CF is dead.. well it works but the card is never coming out. that doesnt matter to me tho as i have a 100gb HDD

tbh tho i dont smack it from a foot away to get my louder hits my fingers bearly touch half the time and i dont press buttons at strange angles maybe mpc's dieing are because of abuse not overuse

Notice you didn't include the 2500 in this list. Have there been problems?

Mine is still working fine. Buttons and sliders are still intact. Pads are still as good as the the day I bought it. I don't bang out on the pad with aggression. I lightly pressure tap it instead of hammer action banging. So far its been paying off.

I know eventually I will need a pad ugrade. Does anybody know if the pad upgrade is worth it? Does it has the same response and feel as the newer MPC?

...did you read what i had just posted? this is not a problem of abuse. if it were an issue of abuse than EVERY MPC would have the same problem. there are no "strange angles" to hit the mpc pads.

that's just not the way mpc pads are intended to be played. you're supposed to be able to give them a good solid bounce. you shouldn't have to treat em like eggshells. imagine having to do that with real drums...

with FSR technology (pad fix, all current mpcs), the only moving part is the rubber, which of course stands up very well to repeated applications of force. with the Inaba sensors (first 2 generation mpc1000s), we have two moving parts: rubber and pressure transducing rubber. this is where the problem occurs.

Notice you didn't include the 2500 in this list. Have there been problems?

yes, there have been problems of a completely different variety with the mpc2500 pads, though not nearly as many as the 1000 because the actual sensor of the 2500 is a Sensitronics FSR, same as all current mpcs. i don't have personal experience with the issue but as i understand it, there's potentially a bend in the pad frame (worst case) or the rubber pads come out of their holdings (best case) which causes ghost notes. bunch of folks either sold theirs, traded them in for new ones, or sent them back to akai for warranty (and a couple of those even got them back, akai claimed nothing wrong)

maybe mpc's dieing are because of abuse not overuse

again, again again i will say it:
this problem is due to a DESIGN FLAW, NOT improper use.
the jury is NOT OUT on this issue. i've written exhaustively on the subject, researched it, etc etc etc.

it was negligent, incompetent engineering on Akai's part.

I got mine about 2 weeks after release. No pad problems whatsoever. Everything works perfectly. I bring mine to work 5 days a week and my kids bang on it when I get home sometimes. I have been very lucky.

I have the old blue one. Only thing new - Did teh pad upgrade and everything else is perfect. thought about getting the newer black case upgrade but figured it was a waste of money (even though it looks hot) cos it's only cosmetic. Figure if others have replaced the q-links, jog wheel, etc. I should start saving.

also, i've heard of rust happening on the back metal panels. I checked with mpcstuff and they said the replacement panels they sell are exact akai replacements. In other words, those might rust too. Be aware, th new mpc1000bks might have the same prob down the road. I'm by no means trying to talk bad about mpcstuff. Just don't spill a martini on your mpc or leave it too close to the hot tub.
