main out record

You'll have to excuse me as im a newbie
i picked up a 1K yesterday and am pretty happy with it.
does anyone know why when you record a loop (sample the main out),when you play it back the volume is some what higher and distorted especially on the kicks? just seems whatever i do with the record level it still distorted.

If the sound distorts, it's probably because your master levels are at 0db.

As it says in the manual:

"When the MAIN OUT is selected, you cannot adjust the recording level. When the MAIN OUT is selected, the recording level is decided by the setting of Master level in the GLOBAL page of the OTHER mode. The initial setting of the Master level is –12dB as the output sound will not distort when many samples are played back simultaneously. If you record one sample through MAIN OUT with this setting, the recorded sample level is lower than the original sample level. In this case, if you set the Master level to 0dB, the recorded sample level is same as the original sample level."

So when you record your beats at –12db, the sound is weak.

So obviously, if I put the db at “0” in the master level of your MPC, the sound will distort.

Try and put it at –6db, but I still doubt the sound will be top notch.

Serioulsy, I still don't know how to record beats. No one seems to know how, except if you buy other very expensive equipment.

not sure what u mean by that mate? you dont need much equipment if u got an mpc, just takes time to perfect it.

if you got a means of sampling and something to play ya mpc thru your on a winner, plus with downloads and free wav etc there is endless internet stuff to be grasped.

When I say "recording a beat", I mean to export your beat as a .wav (to transfer it to your computer for further mastering, etc. and make a decent quality demo).

I still haven't mastered this either. I've tried recording my beat at several different levals and the volume is always low and the sound is flat. Once I get it into my DAW I amplify it to bring the volume up a bit, but its still LOW. How can I get my beats at a normal volume without peaking? BTW, I've normalized all my samples as well before I load em into my mpc.

i managed it by recording each track solo'ed into logic through my rme ff800 and then transfering the chopped up .wav's onto the cf card. long winded way but no loss of quality.

yeah i have the same problem with trying to get the best quality when tracking out. its always distorting and sounds flat. my kik doesn't have the same punch as the mpc.
