MPC dropping sounds? Quantize? Faulty?

sup all.

hit a hurdle i hope some of you may be able to assist me with.. not sure if my new MPC1000 is faulty or its user error? (im a betting man, and my moneys on user error!).

ohh before you ask -- yes i've RTFM many times, searched the archives here & on other forums and even googled to no avail. it seems like i'm doing something wrong but i cant seem to work it out for the life of me

heres issue:
received my 1000 last week and i'm simply trying to record a basic drum pattern. so i get an unused sequence, get an unused track & load a default program "01-DJ-Hip_Hop". all pads work well... sounds coming out as expected... so i hit play/record and tap away a funk style drum beat for 2 bars with just a drum & a snare.

--> what im experiencing sometimes is that when i'm playing back that newly recorded sequence, an odd snare or drum beat does not play? its as if it dropped out? sometimes i can even hear it but ever so faintly? if i 'overdub' though then i can place that missing instrument back into where i'd originally hit it.

-why is it dropping these beats?
-is this a timing correction issue? (tsig is 4/4 & t.c 1/16th?) i thought i understood quantization.. but quantize doesn't erase sounds does it?
-or hopefully not...is it a faulty MPC?

any advice/pointers would be really appreciated.

I know this: quantize won't erase sounds, it just moves it to the nearest 16th in your case.

do you have full level turned on when you are recording? just a shot in the dark
