dead flash drive?

i just bought my 1000 used and havent had any problems with it until i powered it on tonight and when i tried to load stuff from my flash card, it wouldnt recognize the card at all. i restarted it with the card already in the slot and it froze. checked the card on another computer and everything is there, its the actual flash drive thats the problem.

is there a way to fix this or did i get ripped off?

keep in mind that i am new to the mpc but this seems like its more than just user error

Check your CF card slot to see if theres bent pins or junk in there. Clean it with compressed air and try it again.

If it doesn't work you might need to replace your CF card slot. Not sure how much it would cost but you can check on MPCstuff.com or VST.

ive sprayed out the inside of the card slot with compressed air and also the inputs on the card as well as tried a new card in the slot to see if i could format it and nothing happened. it either wont even think there is a card in there or will freeze once i hit the save pad. ive got an external drive for my computer, is it possible to hook that one up to my mpc and just use it that way?

If both the MPC and the external hard drive is connected to your computer then yes! I don't think you MPC will read an external hard drive itself!
