original tempo ?!?

HI im sure all of you mpc 1000 owners know that the original tempo tracker dosent work for SH*TTT, i extract a sample which propably has a tempo of 100 -120 and it says 168 so. for me this is problem usually i estimate the tempo by noding my head to the sample and sometimes get really close, but sometimes not. il get a 16 slice sample cut it/ loop it perfectly but when i play the sample on the pads it dosent play smoothly. because im not playing it with the right tempo.

MY QUESTION IS what do you guys do to figure out your samples tempo since the tempo tracker in the mpc is useless?

just a heads up, that's not a tempo tracker. maybe that has something to do with why it doesn't work like you expect.

try pressing the tap tempo button at the same speed you're nodding your head at... should work.

yea see thats what i usually do but lets say i wana reduce the tempo of a sample i got how much to reduce it il never really know. and what i mean by tempo tracker is that the mpc is suppose to identify the tempo rate of a sample you extract. how am i suppose to slowdown a beat when the tempo reader is way of

lamp dog you still havent answered my main question is how am i suppose to set a sample to the desirable tempo i wish. time stretch is useless kus i dont know how much to decrease since its sayin like 168 on the tempo reader. i hope your not saying that everytime i make a beat i have to go to this calculaor upload the sample and then do the math from there

in order to timestretch correctly, you need to put in the original tempo where it says 168 or whatever, then put in the tempo you'd like it to be.

no it's not

that field is for manually inputting the original tempo, not for magically detecting it

ive found tap tempo really effective to detcting tempo. not 100% but still.

only needs a few tweaks up or down yeh? same as what i do

surely the tempo of the sample and the construction of the beat surrounding it is what its all about, try training your ears and time keeping. the mpc is only a tool to be used in music making, it aint gonna write the beat for you. sometimes i think people forget this. just keep playin about till u get the phrasing u want use your ears, make musicmaths. soul not science .
