Akai MPC 1000 and external sounds

Hey all. I am looking to purchase the mpc 1000. I just have a few questions about the ability/ease of importing my own sounds into the machine. I have been using Sony acid for a few years now and really like alot of the samples that i have. I would like to be able to access those sounds and assign them to the pads on the mpc. is it possible to do this by simply hooking my external HD into the mpc and "dumping" the sounds? I do alot of sessions where i need to be able to access my sounds quickly and i would like for the mpc to be my only piece of hardware for doing this. Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the CF card and the optional HD in the 1000 don't quite function that way.

you can't browse an external device from the MPC.

but you can browse the MPC's contents from a PC.

so you can dump files from your PC, not from your external HD though.


if you install the HD you can save a fairly large chunk of files and that way you won't need
your computer except to back things up.

Once you have one of those you can slave your mpc via usb and the pc will recognize it as a hard drive then drag and drop.

i have a question to add to this one... i understand generally how the CF card works and the importing.

however, once the sounds are dumped from the computer onto the machine, are they in the real pool of sounds? or do they have to be "imported" into memory? if so, can everything be imported at once?

Once you have copied your samples to the MPC's storage media (Hard Disk or Compact Flash Card) from the computer via USB, you will still need to load them from the storage media into RAM (Memory) before you can assign them to pads etc. You can load whole folders of samples at a time, or load individual samples one at a time.
