is it possible to rescive permanent damage from a ram card?

I may have installed a ram card thats not sodim (cant spell ) my mpcs been freakin out latley because of it, this is not permanent right?? my screen would just blank out

nah i dont think its cause its sodimm think thats what your supposed to get . you probabbly got something else wrong. take it out and see if its still acting weird on you

The answer is yes.

Faulty Ram can mess up your motherboard. Then interesting thing is that once installed and a faulty ram chip essentially infects your motherboard, it can make your motherboard reject new ram chips.

Once you find that your motherboard is now working improperly, the only option you have is to replace it.

This exact thing happened to my Mac laptop and I had to send it back. Luckily it was under warranty. I bought discount ram off some website. Lesson learned. There is a reason why guaranteed, authorized Ram built from the manufacturer is more costly.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The only thing I can think you may want to try is to remove the faulty chip and Ebay it.
Then Restore factory defaults. See if this clears up the problem. If you are lucky it will. Then do a fresh new install of the upgrades and go from there.

Now, since you just bought this MPC, I would honestly recommend that once you restore your factory defaults - whether it works or it doesn't - to return it to the store or warranty and have it fixed.

Then buy the expensive ram built for your machine and you won't ever have these problems again.
I just hope you haven't fused the circuits in your MPC.

I'm not sure if we have the same problem, but I have dealing with a freezing issue too.

I bought a mint condition yet used MPC1000-BK on ebay a while ago. This is not the BK-N. The seller shipped it with the AKAI 128mb memory that was installed by the dealer, but i think everything else is untouched. After a few weeks of behaving properly, the machine has started to freeze up again after being idle. The screen goes blank or has lines through it.

I ran some tests, and I think it is a hardware issue. I pulled the RAM and the CF out and plugged it into a different power source. The problem still occurred. When it freezes only a few buttons work, so it's not an LCD issue.

I still haven not tried to restore it to factory after taking everything out. Will keep you posted if you haven't resolved your issue already.
