type layout for MPC1K respray

hey,

ive recently stumbeld across a can of Glow in the dark spray paint,
and now itching to do the obvious, but i need a type layout to stencil on the type.......in black

any going out there?

So what do you need now - the right typeface for the letters, or what? I don't quiet understand, what you need exactly... maybe it's a language barrier thing.

i expect that somebody out there has a scaled/sized layout type tiff or doc that has the type laid out so if i copied it after i respray my mpc, like the whole body,

then obviously it would cover over the type, so i'd need some form of template to make a stencil to respray onto the mpc that just gives me the letters on there....in the correct size/position.....withou me having to photocopy the images off a manual, as theres room for error there, i'd like something thats worked before for someone else, i dont know what they might have used, thats why im asking out there.

Ahhh, now I see... Well, there's an EPK (electronic press kit out there) which includes pics of the MPC as well as the AKAI Pro Logo in vectorized form. But for the rest of the faceplate's wording, there's no such thing. A workaround would probably be to make a photocopy of the faceplate and work something out from there stencil-wise.

also i was thinking tho' as a last resort, i could scan the graphic of the MPC from the manual, scale it and then import it into Freehand, then "trace" the layout - mbe even use a smarter font to create a brand new - but accurate type layout from that....but getting it to stencil forms going to be harder.

current versions of Adobe Illustrator will vectorize a bitmap automatically - might be easier than using Freehand.

also, as you probably know there are companies out there that will make custom skins for your mpc. you give them a bitmap & they print it out on a vinyl overlay that you adhere to the faceplate of your mpc. they must have an accurate template that maybe they will send you. i remember one of these places had an online flash app on their website where you could choose an image and then position it on the mpc just how you wanted it (rotate & scale it so you could preview how it would look). it's not that 'mpc-stuff' site, it is someone else but i can't find them now. maybe someone else here knows who that is but i lost the link.

i've always wanted to just sandblast the faceplate down to the bare metal. would look cool but would make it harder to use unless you were *real* familiar with the layout! also, what i've seen of Nyms mpc looks cool.

that is the website you are referring to, i got a white cover for my 1k and they are absolutley fantastic. the text is the exact same font as the 1000 and all in the correct postions. the material is top quality and very durable.

2. i would stay well clear from using a stencil, the mpc cases are made by spray painting them and the text is then sprayed on using a lazer cut stencil, or maybe using a special inkjet printer.

should you try and make a stencil yourself, there is no guarantee that your cutting will be neat. your best bet wud be finding sumwhere that will lazer cut the stencil for you. i work as a floor layer and some firms we deal with can lazer cut designs into vinyl flooring, if you could find one of them they might be willing to take the work on for a small fee.

3. don't sandblast your mpc's case. they are made of cheap metal and will soon oxidise after a few months or so.

would they do glow in the dark, Luminescent vinyl, it either would have to be matt black body with glow in the dark type, or g.i.t.d. body and black type....cant decide.
