MPC RAM-compatibility

Peace.

I always thought that the MPC (1k or 2500) RAM-upgrade only works with AKAI:s own brand of RAM.
But some dude told me that any ol' brand will do as long as it's the ones designed for laptops and is 128mb.

Maybe a stupid Q but it's all good

Is this true?
If it is, has anyone here had problems with their non-AKAI ram?

Yes it's true.
I use a cheap as fuk 256 ram card which cost around $30 in australian dollars, which is about $25 USD, and it works fine(the mpc only reads one side of the ram, and ram is double sided, so if you want 128 you need to get a 256 card).
I've had the ram in there for more than a year and a half now and haven't experienced any problems with it.
Just make sure the specs are right:
144 pin, pc 133, 256mb SDRAM SODIMM

Damn I feel stupid for missing that RAM sticky, I only saw the CF Card part.

But anyway, one last Q, are all rams double sided? So for my MPC1000 I have to get an 256mb one?
