A good reason to not buy shit offa ebay...

Just got an MPC from someone on this board...claiming it was like new, but I have to hit the pads hella hard to get it to play any sound, I installed JJOS 3.08 and turned the pad sensitivity all the way up to 25. I was testing the pads with what I perceived is the same velocity, some of the pads take so much to get them to play any sound, and some are hella sensitive. I really hate the inconsistency. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to massage the pads softly and say nice things to them before I play them??

The one I got has rust on the metal backing, the pads look used to all hell (and barely work to boot)...plus I didn't even get my 4GB Drums DVD (!!!) haha. There is no manual, and it came with a 128 flash card (???)...

Did someone randomly send me a MPC and the one I ordered is still in the mail?? hahahaha

Haha, its weird, cause he is a member of this board and does lay down some decent beats. I'd expect more than what I'm getting, at least a working "like new" unit.

thats unfotuante, you could always report it as false advertisement on ebay and go for a refund

I'll add, I'm using a nearly brand new 1000 and I tend to have to hit the pads pretty hard to register and they aren't all even for sensitivity.

It is possible that you bought one that has the old shitty pads. If you really don't like the pads you might want to look for the entire pad replacement. $185 is steep, but based on feedback from the boards it is pretty much the best love you can get for the MPC 1000.

If you take the faceplate off you can quickly tell if you have the old pads because they will be 16 individual pads and if they are the new pads they will all be connected together in one pad mat.

Thats a bit much to think that just because they are the old pads that they all wont work correctly. I readjusted the sensitivity on all of them to be the same and the ones that were used the most are the ones that are dead, you can physically see it on the MPC itself. I'm just going to send it back and get a refund, I wanted something out of the box that works.

call him out privately, politely, and ask for some money back.

depending on how much you paid, i believe that $99.99 USD is generously appropriate (generous of YOU, that is) due to the incorrect ebay description. that's about half of the cost of the new pad upgrade + shipping. feel free to quote me on it.

note that i have no idea who this seller is

Well it did sound kind of abused from your description, but I was just offering that it might be more the device. If you can see that the pads were heavily used though that's different. Clearly it sounds like the seller was being a little optimistic with regard to how well the MPC was taken care of.

can't complain about a flash card thats 4 times the size of that described.
But to say it's something it's not, and to say it comes with something it doesn't is bad business, even if it is just some drum sounds.
This reminds me of when i used to get sneakers off of ebay a lot, people love to post the name and description of a shoe, and then post a picture of a shoe that matches the description, but isn't actually the shoe they plan on sending. And theres fukall you can do about it because as long as the description describes the item, it doesn't matter what the picture is of. But this person hasn't even matched the description!
I'm looking for a 1000 at the moment on ebay for a friend, but plan on upgrading the pads and ram myself. But this has reminded me once again to stay on my toes...

Ya, well a 4gb flashcard is only 20$, and I think we sell 512mb flashcards at my work for 5$.

I'm not really complaining, since the guy is taking it back for the same amount I paid for it, he says he had no idea about its workings since he used his MPC 60 to control it.

This post was meant to serve as a warning to what you may find on ebay.

if you get a chance tell him i might be able to buy it
i need another used 1k for usage so i don't always have to unplug mine

I kinda had the same issue with the ol' bay....i paid like 500 for a used mpc, but when i got it, i got no sounds from the pads. they were dead. so, i politely emailed the seller and told him. he gave me his number and we talked.

eventually, he refunded 180$ for a new set of pads. a real standup guy. serious.

Damn, hate to hear that. Only shit I buy off ebay are good rare samples. And always buy from Powersellers, Be weary of anyone without a gold star at all.
