Potential Buyer with a Quick Question - # of Samples?

Hi there, I'm new here and will probably buy an MPC1000 soon. The gear I work with currently (Roland SP-606) has a lot of effects and can only import 100 samples from a CF card. I work in loops, not one-shots.

I've looked at the FAQ, I've downloaded the manual and searched here several times to try and find an answer so failing that I'll just ask:

How many samples can the MPC1000 import from a card?

I'm getting conflicting information. The guy at the store says only 64. Another guy online says that the number is "WAYyyyy more than that" - but without owning one I can't be sure. Can anybody help me out? This is probably a pretty rudimentary question.

I think its a many as the ram can hold. Fully expanded to 128mb that could be just one huge 25 min sample ! or loads and loads of small ones.

If your mpc isn't fully expanded, make sure you check the sticky at the top of the page so you can buy the cheap ram and not the rip off akai ram.



okay i just checked it out by loading up loads of folders.

I loaded 657 samples and still had a approx a minutes woth of stereo sampling left, if that aint enough i definintely need to listen to your music!haha

The sample list numbers all the samples with 3 digits e.g. 001, 346, etc so 999 might be the maximum.

Time to get out of the stone age and try one of these things. Thanks for the tip about the RAM, I'll def get this thing maxed out after I get my hands on one.

yeah i had the sp606 for bout a year it pissed me off so i just recently traded it for a mpc 2000xl cant wait for it ..it should be here sat no later than mon
