How to play basslines?

Hi,

I've been making beats on the mpc1000 for a short while, and need some help re basslines. I know that using a 'low pass' filter on a sample can beef up the bass, but I want to actually play my own basslines over the top, using a keyboard. This is where (hopefully) you guys can help...

I'm basically clueless when it comes to using a keyboard with an mpc, so need to know the real basics! If I got a basic Casio-style keyboard and connected it into my mpc, can I then simply play-&-record a bassline over the track? I'd just like any advice/help before buying a keyboard and then realising it can't be used!

Yeah, that's the basic idea. Syncing MPC to keyboard requires MIDI. Midi is very confusing to most at first glance so Go to tweakheadzlab.com and read through the midi course. THIS SITE IS A GEM FOR NEWBIES, EMBRACE IT!!!! You can thank me later.
Make sure it is a keyboard/synth that is multitimbral (able to play different patches at the same time; most are 16 parts multitimbral in relation to 16 midi channels) and can send and recieve midi on all 16ch.

One more thing if buying from ebay, you can use the site Sonicstate, or vintage synth to find specs.

if u just want to add bass lines you can always sample a real bass guitar note or even download one, assign it to a pad and then use 16 note function to create your bass line riff you can change the tuning settings of the sample to suite,

try this before rushing out to buy a keyboard,
but yes a midi keyboard is far easyer and more adaptable in the long run.
