I am not sure if this has been brought up or not, but I want to know if anybody else has experienced this.

I finally got my Mpc 1000 on Tuesday I was really excited etc.
I played around with it for a while listened to some of the songs that automatically load up when you turn on the mpc.

Everything is working fine THEN I take out the 128mb card and insert it into the slot as instructed (aka looking at the blue piece of paper and following the instructions).

I go to the load menu and try to load shit from the akai CF card, every fuken time I try and load the sounds this msg came up "insert memory card".

I am 100% sure it was inserted correctly and I was following standard procedure (lol) when trying to load up the sounds .

So that really pissed me off faulty card reader=redundant MPC

^^Has anybody had this problem before?

Anyways I start looking through the manual and page 47 is half ripped WTF??
The quick start guide has finger print marks on it and the play button is slightly dirty.

I think to myself wtf did this shop just ship me 2nd hand/floor model or faulty mpc?

I called the shop (I ordered it from a shop in Melbourne, I live in Perth but it was cheaper to get one from there) and talked to the guy I had been in contact with for a while now.
He said to me because the card reader does not work and the page in the manual is half ripped you should return it and we will give you a brand new 1.

He did not say anything about return to sender so I won't have to pay for shipping, I was also pissed off and forgot to ask about it.

I send it back 2 days later with a letter stating the problems and the request for a new mpc.
As soon as I get home from the post office I send an email to the guy asking if I will be reimbursed for the shipping cost and telling him that I have done what I was told to do.
It has been 2days now no reply.

If this does not get sorted out soon I am going to air this bs shop out.
I hope this works out well because they fooked up and I want to start using the mpc 1000 before uni starts up again.

Damm long post

If you paid for a new one- definately dont take a used one... not really rocket science there. I bought a damaged floor model for half price from gc- did my own pad upgrade, and slider reinstall with a slider from mpcstuff.com. I truly love and need my mpc but still kinda wish I had just paid a lil more an got it brand new, dont let them make you settle, then have to install a new card reader, then who knows what else. if you paid for a new one and the shop knowingly sent you a used one that is called consumer fraud... you are definately entitled to free return shipping and really that shop is lucky yer being cool and only asking for what is yours- you could justly dig into them an make a big stink in all fairness. hope it works out for u.

I paid for a new one I didn't expect to get this.
I have been very calm with them because at the end of the day they have my money and are in a different state, so they have the upper hand.

The guy I spoke to told me that they will give me a new one instead of fixing the one I sent back.

I wrote down the serial number as well so i will know if they send me the same one.

They have to give me a new MPC that is what I paid for, not a refurbished MPC.

I looked in card reader slot and I didn't see a broken/bent pin I may have missed it tho.
They told me the mpc had new pads (new model) and it did so at least they were honest about that.

If they don't email me by Monday I am going to have to call the store again I hope it doesn't get ugly.

I think I might just buy stuff from local shops even though it is more expensive, it is not worth hassle dealing with this shit.

"it most likely had a bent/broken pin. Not uncommon for the 1000. Even if they are at fault they usually dont refund shipping costs. I would avoid threatening them. Please and thank you go a real long way.... Hope it works out"

-first off they manage to avoid shipping costs on busters with their balls tucked because they know they can... I hand someone a thousand dollars and I'm damn well getting what I paid for (then again a background in civil law is helpful, it also helps when you can back the bark- making it not a threat but in fact a guarantee).
- In case "I would avoid threatening them" was directed at my post, I wasn't suggesting he threaten them...Please and thank you is fine if it's a mutual respect, and I agree can go a very long way... but if I taste shit and I'm told it's icecream- we got a problem unless it is due to an honest mix up that gets immediately corrected, and further more, I am assured by the shop proprieter that the money I work hard for is appreciated by the company I am giving it to for a product I believe to be up to par. efficiency is the goal of any legitimate enterprise and hence you would be doing them a favor in notifying them of their failure to match status quo; that as a distributer of "new" merchandise they are obligated to maintain. are you telling me you would buy a used mpc for fresh out the box prices? cuz if so, yer a moron! I concur a bent/pin and a whole assorted variety of technical malfunctions for that matter are not uncommon with the 1k, does that mean that as soon as he buys one brand new- turns out to be used and malfunctioning he should-on top of that- have to go and deal with the replacement process just because this is a "common" problem?(fault 1), if he had bought it used-fine all bets are off but he bought it "new." and my root issue with this whole situation was that the shop owner sold a used mpc as new, that was my big beef, cuz thats "just fowl and it's duck season." I kno I was happy when I got my 1k, he probably was too- now he has to worry about sending it back i;e no music making with the 1k and then waiting for the return after he already waited. (fault 2) On top of this he has to pay the shipping?(fault three) to me thats a spit in the face that he as a honest consumer does not deserve. "FIGHT AGAINST THOSE WHO FIGHT AGAINST I" but thats me, all in all, yea probably dont bother speaking up, just take this other guys advice and work with what they hand you, have a nice lil quiet complacent life- like a mouse work around the big people who could easily squash you lol(hope you noticed the blatant sarcasm)... something about that guys post just pissed me off, I hate subliminal shit talk/jealousy/manipulation/social plastic- grow a pair why dont you. the next post is gon be some hippie psuedo pop-guru, telling me to calm down or "chill out"... but you wouldnt get it- I'm nothing like you.

The guy finally replied to my email, he said he will send me a replacement as discussed (on the phone) and we do not reimburse shipping cost for warranty items.

All they will do is give me a new one and pay for shipping back to me, sheet to they want me to pay for that as well....

I find this to be BS because they fooked up not me.

Thanks BustedPads I agree with your posts.

This experience has made me very wary of buying electronics from other states and countries fooken people are lame lols.

Now back to the poster Chackosh, did they at least give you a date to recieve your new one? That sucks that they wont refund your shipping but most companies dont even when they are at fault. Definately look the new one over when you get it. Hopefully they dont try to scam you. Hope it works out.

Poundaproblem, they didn't give me a date but I will ask when I reply to the email later on.
I most definately will look the new 1 over, I already wrote the serial number of the old one down and I remember the old one had some dirt smudge on the play button that I could not get rid of so i will also check for that.
It should take about 3 or 4 working days to arrive that is how long the first 1 took.

I hope they don't if they do there are limited things I can do, i hope everything works out i cbf with all this hassle i just want to make music.

I sent the store an email asking while it is taking so long for me to get a replacement.

I got an email the next day (quickest response I have ever received from them) saying my MPC just arrived and they will send me a replacement via express mail.

I received the replacement in literally 2 or 3 days (very fast).

I received a new model which has no problems, I specifically checked the serial number to make sure they didn't just repair mine and send it back.

Everything has worked out after the original setback, in spite of what happened I may still buy stuff from they because the prices are very good.

Perth shops are rip offs.

Now I need to learn how 1k now.

Thanks for all the responses.
