~Hit 16 levels
~hit pad you want pitched to choose what the 16 will be applied to
~switch from velocity to tune in the 16 levels window
~do it

Now you sound will be pitched at semi-tone intervals across the 16. Hit 16 pads again to revert to the regular set up.

Thanks a lot. I'm an absolute beginner, and I thought for a moment that I would have to cough up $40 to get the JJOS system to pitch shift.

no - you'll be pitched, but not pitch shifted

pitch shifting refers to changing the pitch while retaining the tempo. 16 levels operates on the tune parameter, which will change pitch and speed/tempo of the sample

however, pitch shift is still an option in the akai OS -- you just have to do it in the TRIM screen
