Running out of room

Hi guys, I have had my mpc 1000 since March and I am really getting my hhead round it now and am having lots of fun taking samples from records etc and making sample programs that i like to save to my cf card. My problem is ( and bear in mind i am still quite a newbie) i keep maxing my cf card and haviong to delete stuff off the card which sometimes results in me loosing good stuff as well as being annoying as hell.

I was wondering can i just buy a larger capacity cf card (its the the one it cam with from Akai,) And if so can someone tell mewhat i need to do to formaat it.

Or if there are anyt other techniques to ensure you dont loose space when working on tunes.

stop buying compact flash cards and buy the hard drive kit and a hard drive!

Hi I understand now ive found a 40 gig hard drive on ebay for 30 quid I have a black mpc will the hd mounting kit be in the mpc 1000 in the slot ready for me to slot the hd into?

Prob not. The HD kits are all over Ebay as well... But in order to be certain, you will need to open the MPC to check for the HD kit. Do a search (I have no idea where the thread is) on HD kit install to get an idea of what is involved. Also, you canalways save the stuff that is on your card to your PC/Mac for future use, that way you can free up space on the card without having to lose it completely. I hope this info is helpful.

no, only the 2500 comes with the kit pre installed. so if you got your mpc brand new, and you never installed the kit, you most likely don't have it. if you bought it used, crack open the mpc as instructed in the manual and check if you have it. it will be in the little slot.

you need to buy the kit from somewhere like here:

then, you need a laptop drive, not a normal computer drive.

My MPC was bough new in March and the B Bank button has broken slightly I need to take it to my local music store where i bought it for the machine to be fixed by AkAI as its still in warranty. Just wondered if i tookk the front off wether it would invaildate the warranty?

was just wondering - if you install a hard drive into the 1000 - does that make it less portable/more delicate? Im assuming since its a laptop hd it will have been built to withstand damage from movement/carrying - anyone had a hd die on them?

punarnee - if you find the hd option a ballache its worth investing a few quid in a 2gig compact flash....

No it will not. You'll be fine. Check on youtube for MPC vid and pick and choose what you need to watch. You may find most you won't need but in the search you can find "how-to's"... Check out MPCstuff.com, they have the vids on their site.

The MPC is pretty sturdy... I ain't sayin to drop it like its hot but you can purchase an MPC bag and be good. I don't do live shows but i travel and take my machine with me all the time and i only use a gym bag with head phones, some extra wires and the manual (just in case!) stuffed inside and my ish is fine.


P.S. the 2gb card is a good idea for the time being. Maybe get more than one also....

If you are really tight on funds, I havebeenusing a 5gb st1 drive I got for cheap.... From:

This is the exact one I have been using for 6 months now with no problems..... They hadan 8 gb version, but I did not think I needed that plus my 60gb hd..... Good luck.... The only prob I have encountered is this card does not fit in alot of ext card readers, but if you connect your MPC to your cpu directly it will not cause you any problems.....
