I am trying to sample out of my discman. The discman is connected into my MPC record in jacks. Whenever I am done sampling and play the sample it sounds distorted. I've played around with the record gain and the volume of the sample but, I cant get a clear sample. Am I doing something wrong?Should I be sampling through the digital inputs when dealing with cd players?

You're fine sampling analog like you are, chances are your discman doesn't have digital out anyway.

It sounds to me like the problem could be that the headphone jack that you're coming out of on the discman is amplified heavily before it sends the signal. This is done so that your headphones (most are unamplified) can produce a nice loud signal for you to blow out your ears with :)

My first suggestion would be to see if there is a "Line-Out" jack on the discman. If you don't have a line-out, then my second suggestion is to turn the discman volume down to about 4 or 5 (out of 10) and set the MPC record in gain/volume appropriately. If you can't make either of these happen, my third suggestion is to use a different CD player. Hell, I'll sell you a 5 disc changer for $40.
