Busted Mode Button

My mode button died while I was working last night. I never realized how important it was. I couldn't do anything except work with the sounds I had in the MPC- and I couldn't even save those sounds.
I've had it 8 months and it gave no signs that it was dying.
Anyone else have similar experience?
Where would be the best place to get a new button?
Is this a repair I can do myself?

When I got my MPC I ordered a bunch of these replacement buttons from Ebay I think... I do not remember all the details, but I have about 100 spares for that time when I need them... I hate waiting for parts such as these.... Just an idea.


*Edit* Mine are the actual soldered in portion, but I got what appears to be the non led versions... I guess $10 for one button is not too bad, especially if you needit asap.

wait was it the button or the actual part thats wired into the ciruit board?

for this you will need some soldering skills

but if you just broke the button then that 3$ piece will work just fine

if it's only the actual button that is broken it can just be removed and the switch underneath can be poked with a pen or something

my guess is the switch is what failed though

I just ordered the $3 button from MPCstuff. I'm hoping thats all I need. When I shake The box I can hear something loose inside near the button-so I'm assuming a piece of it broke. I have'nt taken it apart yet--I'm a little apprehensive-
I may open it up tonight.

So.....My button arrived and I turn on my box for the first ime in 4 days and guess what??? The old button works--kinda. I have to press it twice sometimes but it works enough to serve it's function. Weird. Maybe it's dying? IDK--but I guess I have a replacement if thats what I need--or could I be something else?

its probably the actual hardware on the circuit board like i mentioned earlier see the link i posted. that leads to a read button that you have to solder in place of the old button.

I don't own any solder equiptment and don't really want to purchase any-- but you may be right- the switch is going out.
So far I've had no probs. (knock on wood)

Order new switches, these 4,5 by 4,5 mm´s won´t work. I bought them myself and they´re simply too small. 6 x 6 mm switches as Nym states in the thread below seems much more accurate.
