Sampling from old records and vinyl... Hardware ideas???

FWIW, you don't actually NEED a DJ mixer if you're only going to be sampling. You could dig through thrift stores/pawn shops/record stores and get a good older stereo reciever, send the spae outs to the inputs of your MPC. An old silver-face Marantz that costs $50-$100 is going to have a much better phono section than a DJ mixer that costs twice that.

The best sounding samples I've made from vinyl came from the preamp out of a Technics SA-700 stereo reciever. I don't spin, so I ended up selling my mixer, since it was just sitting there.

attention, many cheap dj mixers are affecting the sound negatively. i experienced it with a gemini which had never the correct left/ right balance and was changing the waveform somehow. (recorded the output of my soundcard through the mixer and without the mixer) maybe i find the screenshots.
and even a vestax mixer i tryed was adding bad hum to the signal.
maybe a good thing is one of this newer ones (turntable) with line output. if you don't have high end analog gear try to keep it out of your recording chain. the best way to record from your computer is the digital input of the mpc or sampler.
