I'm fairly new to music production and want to start making some beats, I need to get some monitors but I'm not sure what kind I should get, I'm not trying to spend no more than $300-400 on a pair of monitors and I was wondering if that was good enough for a decent pair. What are the important features should I be looking for in monitors for producing music.

I was in your same shoes a couple months ago. I went to Guitar Center and wanted to hear the different monitors they had. The store closest to me has a shit ton of monitors out, so I was lucky and got to hear a variety. I ended up buying the Mackie MR5s. I thought about getting the 8s, but $ played a part into me getting the 5s. I was tempted to buy the KRKs, but I think they're popularity overshadows their sound.

One more thing, do I need and audio interface to just hook up monitors or could I justy simply plug them into my computer? if so, what type of audio interface would be decent and cheap.
