Confused on what type of mixer i need

I have a MPC-1000 and a Stanton t-60 TT and i plan on getting a mixer soon so i can sample from the TT. (Tried hooking it up directly and it sounds horrible).

Are audio mixers and DJ mixers the same thing? Because looking thru the site i see people saying get a DJ mixer. The Guitar Center guy said i need an audio mixer. He also said dont **** with Beringher brand mixers
