Using MPC1000 as MIDI host?

hi people,

am looking for advice on buying the 1000 to use as the main MIDI host in my studio?

Am hoping to use the rock solid MPC timing to control a laptop PC (running Cuabse, Logic or Reason) as well as some oldschool synths and samplers. Would the 1000 work for this, or would I need to buy a 4000 instead?

You can use any sampler not just the 1000 or mpc in general for that matter.The 1000 may be a littlt more to your liking,it's usb capability should come in handy but if you're gonna pay that much might as well go with the 2K(xl).

i'm looking at the 1000 cos of its filters and pc compatibility. is it fairly straightforward to sequence external synths with the 1000?

Yep, I like the MPC1000 as the "MIDI Brain". It has the Soft Thru and Master Clock facilities we need for the job.

One exception: it does MIDI Clock but not MIDI Time Code (MTC), so it can't be the master in a SMPTE/MTC world e.g. Audio/Video sync or dubbing.

Yeah, I got mine to serve as the "nerve center" of my entire MIDI rig. Am still learning the machine, and getting set up, but all should work great!
