turntables

hey if anyone can help here what type of turntable do i need for mpc 1000 a usb or directdrive for sampling vinyl and what are the differences? thanx

Most turntables cannot be plugged straight into your MPC.

The output of a traditional turntable needs a Phono Preamp to boost and equalise the signal to line level. Some turntables include a preamp, but usually you connect them to a mixer or amplifier with a phono preamp built in.

A USB turntable digitises the sound and sends it to a computer over USB. That won't work with an MPC.

Direct drive vs belt drive is a different subject, unrelated to the points above. Do some homework.

n00b question here: I have a record player (AT-PL120) and a Sony str-de197 receiver, can I connect the receiver directly to the MPC1000 and, if so, what kind of cord do I need? If not, how can I sample directly to my MPC with this turntable? Via a mixer (any recommendations on a mixer?)? Any & all help is appreciated, thanks.

that turntable has an internal pre-amp so if you switch it to use that you can plug it directly into the mpc and sample away.

if you can't figure out what kind of cable you need to do it then you should probably sell your mpc and spend the money on cheap alcohol and strippers

If you don't like the booze and strippers option, READ THE MANUALS for your gear. Nearly all audio gear has a "connecting your equipment" section in the manual which tells you the options, what type of connectors, and if necessary what settings to use for any switches. Plus, unlike people on forums, the manual will be specific to your gear, will have diagrams, and won't respond to silly questions with sarcasm.

Haha, I suppose so. I started reading the manual before I posted but just didn't even think about looking for that. Ended up calling my buddy (that I picked up the MPC from recently) and he helped me out as well, adapter is just what I need. Thanks
