I am trying to figure out if the MPC 5000 I just bought used has all the sounds that should have come with the unit. I got confused when I looked on the hard disk in the Loop masters folder, and there was almost nothing in there, just a bunch of wave files. I saw a tutorial online that showed several folders full of loops in there and then I felt worried that the previous owner had saved over all those folders by executing a "save all sequences and songs" in that folder. Thats what it looks like to me. Any thoughts? Anyone?

I'm pretty sure that the original poster knows that the 5k is a sampler. But apparently he (as well as I) would like to know what came with the original package, (also I bought my 5k used).

The ones that came with it are the Hip Hop, House, Drum n Bass and Trance & Techno, the same basic ones you can find on the AKAI website here:

I don't have any of these on my hard drive, which is a total bummer. I know I can sample and make my own sounds... duh. I am just learning to use this machine and the easiest way to start is with loops and the factory sounds. Now, Does anyone know if there is a way I can get them back? I'm not lazy, it's just pretty hard to get any 411 on MPCs in general since Akai won't answer the phone and I made the mistake (it feels like a mistake) of buying it used.

I know a site where you can "get them back" but it's not exactly legal to do so. If you don't have the original box/receipt I doubt AKAI will hook you up for free.

yea yall cats are lazy.. sounds are booty anyway.. dont know why you would want those.. most folks take the necessary steps to remove these sounds from their machines..

Where do you get your sounds from? what would you recommend? I really just wanted them as a starting point. I have used Reason a shit load and programmed beats on there for years, but the MPC is kind of tricky as a machine, it does some things way better and other things way worse. I have been learning out of the manual but for me it has been pretty slow since I don't have anyone to teach me. not to sound like a little girl, but I figured it probly best to start with some loops and the stock sounds. Do you guys have any sound packages that you really like? or you mostly just sample off CDs?

ive been collecting drums since limewire was popular, modernbeats kits, ive bought drum cds from ebay packaged as Motif, Fantom, Triton kits, ripped open drums from old cds and mp3s... if you still have Reason make some loops with their drums and export the loop as a wav and chop it up in your mp, or chop em up in any audio editing software you may be used to and load em up in the 5k.. honestly torrents have been my best friend, ive downloaded many drum kits through torrents, i have the battery3 library which is about 7gbs worth on my mp hard drive.. the 5k loopmaster backup is plastered literally all over the net...

Thanks man. I guess I will just have to start somewhere. I don't really know what I am doing yet with this thing. I have been producing music for a long time but always bands and live instrument recordings, so the whole sampling thing is new to me. I love making loops and stuff on Reason but I never really took it to the level I am working towards now. I appreciate the help!
