midi interface just to control/sync to ableton (no audio from your mpc)
or an audio interface (sometimes have a midi interface built in them) for you guess it
AUDIO from the mpc

you don't need studio monitors, your PC speakers will be OK if they're not total budget cheapo ones

you could buy better monitors, but you might as well figure out how to hook everything up before deciding if you need to spend more money

you can also use USB to connect the 1000 to your computer. but it will only allow you to transfer wav files between the two machines.

you can resample your tracks and drag them in to your DAW, without having to buy an expensive audio interface. you also get better sound quality, as your audio isn't passing through any convertors.

let me break it down.

basicaly your goal after geting the computer is to get the best anolog to digital converters, basicaly a audio interface recognized by whatever daw your using. If your looking at the over all view, interfaces under a grand are crap compared to a grand up, just to let you know.

Lot of people like to use midi on this forum.

what i like to do is not use midi. what i do is plug in the 8 outs of my xl in to the 8 inputs of my interface.
recored the different sequences, unwarp the audio, select all tracks and start the audio right where the first sound hits
(use zoom to look at the waves for this) once thats done you just set the abelton tempo to whatever tempo you had on the mpc and you should be good..

i prefer this because I just hate trusting the midi sync flow, Its just not the same for me im sorry

Read up on Ableton and see what it's about, then proceed from there.

reasons i recored into a daw.

1. the mixing and effects in a daw system is far more superior then hte mpcs ( some plugins have replaces 1000$ hardware thease days)

2. I like to finish my beats in ableton- i wire reason to abelton and i can easly add any extra reason sounds
or draw in any drops i want

3. yes you can mix vocals in to your lists of tracks in the daw

if your satisfied with your method then dont feel like you need to force yourself to buy a mac
and multitrack. F*ck it its really all just a sense of ear how you wana do it
