K, well I'm working my way through the manual, and now have hit a point where I'm a bit confused. I kind of figured I'd make my tracks kinda like this:

The first sequence would contain (verse) tracks with parts of my song, drums, melody, bass, etc.

The 2nd sequence ( chorus) would contain copied parts of sequence one, as well as variations.

I would have other smaller sequences making up the intro, breaks etc. Sorta like that.

Then I got to the song mode chapter. They keep saying, step this, and step that. assigning steps, each song has 250 steps....

I get I have sequences, and have various tracks within them, but I don't get this whole step thing.

I'd say please excuse my ignorance, but I don't want you too, I don't get it

SONG MODE allows you to chain your sequences together in the order you choose so they play automaticaly , how you want them.
Just add your sequences in SONG. When you have them just right , press PLAY and hear your song.

you've got a 1000 right?
see page 6, and the diagram (which is similar to the one on page 37)

you put a sequence in each step, up to 250 steps

so you could have:

step 1: sequence 1
step 2: sequence 2
step 3: sequence 3
step 4: sequence 4
...

or

step 1: sequence 1
step 2: sequence 1
step 3: sequence 2
step 4: sequence 1
...

or whatever arrangement you want, putting a sequence in each step, with between 1 and 250 steps in each song.

As an aside, I really wish the PDF of the MPC1000 manual had proper bookmarks, so clicking on the Table of Contents or the left-hand bookmarks panel would jump to the right page. It'd make life much easier.
