program changes

i have my mpc2000xl hooked up to my motif rack. when i record a track and try to find different sounds for the next track my sound changes. i read that it has to do with programming but it is just not clear. if someone can somewhat clear it up i would be veryyy thankful. ive been all over the forum and im sure someone has asked this before so im sorry if its redundant but i just cant find the answer.

if you use your motif in multi mode, you gotta make sure that you save each sound once you tweaked it and the you gotta save the whole thing as
a multi in the motif. for example, give the multi the same name as the song in the mpc... hope this is clear enough....

when you are using synth in multimode, (multiple midi channels, each with a different preset) it won't work if you only save each sound, you got to save the multi or preset or whatever they call it in the motif... you can also use program change messages to tell the synth to play a certain sound on a certain midi channel.... it's explained in the mpc manual. then you got to go to the midi setings in the motif and set it to receive program change messages.
