Whatsup people? I'm pretty new to this Mpc game, been messing around since about July. Anyways with my time using the mpc500 I've come across a whole bunch of questions. First of all, when I save my whole song I always scroll to "Save Ent. mem project." So i keep doing that and whenever I make revisions ill just save the same thing again, with the same name that I saved it before. I.e file name was "revise" first save, on revision i named it "revise" again. Here is my problem though. Lately when I've been doing that, it doesn't seem to save my work. It goes through the motions saving the samples and the "files saved" flashes and returns to normal, but when I power off and power on my mpc and reload my project, it doesn't load anything. It stays on the default template. My bpm is not there, the sequence parameters, assigned pads and all that. Just now I saved and tried rebooting my project and now it said "gen inst. error" or something like that and proceeded to blast static noise into my ear. It's very frustrating.

How do you mpc vets go about saving your work? I'm tired of losing work. I also should mention that my mpc is bone stock. I read the sticky on how to upgrade ram and cf card and I will do that soon. Could it be lack of memory for me? Thanks in advance.

*edit.................. Whenever I save the file as the same name again, it always asks me to replace the sample and I say yes. My mpc's file library is a mess! I just click all the way to the left so I don't think it's saving to a folder. If you save it like that, then do the samples that you use double? Meaning they're in their original folder, and also to the new place I saved them.
Let me know what I'm doing wrong here :D

OK first I would point you to the Autoload option. IMO it sounds like you saved the blank programs to the autoload so when it turns on it will  Autoloads what you are getting when you turn it on. And it might be corrupted if it just blasts noise.

you have no harddrive right so all you have is internal memory so You have answered your own question. You need CF card.

Again you answer your own question, but let me clear up something that i do not think you grasp. Yes when you save things as the same name you replace that samenamed file BUT you are saving entire memory so you are also saving and replacing the Project file, Seq file, Programs, samples, and my favourite the IPT file that is the MPC FX settings.

So every time you save your entire memory you have just replaced all these files from old stuff you have done with the new one you are saving. so all files are replaced like Project file, Seq file, Programs, samples, and my favourite the IPT file.

Basic file management will solve your problem. give each song a folder, its not hard.

Thanks for the reply. I actually do have a cf card, it's only a 512 mb though. I tried saving different this time. I saved the program and the sequence. It loaded up fine but samples didn't load with the program. I'm just gonna keep messin with it, although it's still pretty annoying.

Save APS and ALL and you should have no problems. When saving APS over files of the same name choose replace and if you have altered your SND files in the trim screen (truncation etc.) you will have to choose yes to save over them.
