What's the last piece of gear in the record chain before it gets to the stereo amp?

I take it to be the mp right? First, inside the mp you probably want to set a "nominal" record level (ie: 0, -6, -12, etc.) followed by setting your master record level next to the volume level to somewhere close to max but not necessarily full max.

Then make your adjustments where ever you need to so that you don't "clip or distort" the signal.

Distortion will do you in everytime. So just use your ears & eyes if you need to so you can get a good saturated signal without the unwanted distortion.

Your mileage may vary.

hey people! i am using the mpc-tutor 'zone' tutorial for the 2000xl! i am kinda stuck on sometin'.. maybe u can help! :)

1) so i sampled a bar into the mpc..1 bar 4 beats of madlib/talib record..its in there!.. but do i assign it to a pad after it in?

2) i did the 'zone' thing and put made it 4 zones..! and i hear each zone when i press play holla! :)

3) here's where i get a lil' confused..i hit EDIt and sliced it ..this should put the sliced on PADS A1- A4 ..but it does not assign the slices to the pads..? my thinking is that im not doing something right when i sample it in..do i assign the whole sample to a pad..! sometimes ill hit a pad ..and the whole sample will play..but not the slices..

4) thanks! :) been listening to 'Big brother' kanye graduation..ridiculous beat!

Now i read that i wont say anything, you big bro is right. listen up :D
Zach you have to get an idea of your Gain structure... Some preamps have a certain sound when driven hard into slight distortion that adds harmonics....this can be desireable or not...So you see try and experiment but also try and keep it on the level so to speak. i would just go and plug akai into sony amp. that way not too much to adjust. just the out put of MPC and gain on amp input.
