MPC Model Comparison for a beginner.

I'm thinking about buying a MPC within the next month. I have a few questions about the machine and all the different models. I know for a fact that I want a hardware machine and not one that relies on software on the computer.

The two different models I'm looking at are the MPC500 and MPC1000. They are both around the same price on eBay and Craigslist. Which one is better and capable of doing more things?

Also can you use a MPC as a controller on garageband?

How do you add different sounds onto the machine? Like different snares, basses, hi hats, etc? I was told you can do this by simply plugging a USB hard drive into the back.

Any advice would be very helpful!

the 1000 is better then the 500... the 500 runs on batteries but can not use jjos.
