I thought I did.

(I was just messin' with that other smartass remark)

Boywithpez could be right. I dunno, but either way, using balanced cables with balanced equipment will sound better, yes.

Mono. The typical 1/4 cable you get or a snake cable is usually mono.

Someone let's check the specs of the different models. Cause, check it, even if it's a mono jack, it can still be balanced. I found out that rolands outputs sounded like crap cus they are balanced monos, and thus should take balanced cables. But, the MPCs I dunno. They seem to never print highly technical ish on the box or specs on brochures from akai.
But yeah, these guys or right; the balanced cable (Tip,Ring,Sleeve)
Known as TRS heads, appear as TWO rings, and can accomodate a stereo signal as well as a ground at the same time. Helps elimnate hum with the ground channel. Also, they are typically made with professional grade parts, and cost almost twice as much, but it's like anything that has a trusted benchmark: you get what you pay for. If you go from molded plastic HOSA unbalanced 1/4" cable to High grade, removeable head TRS,
I guarantee your sound will be hotter and cleaner. Unless, like they said, it's a mono jack. In that case, a better grade of that type would improve the sound, but TRS is unecessary.

Yeah, but: the balanced sockets on the Akais are expecting stereo (TRS) or mono (TS) 1/4" plugs. The electrical spec is: three wires for a balanced signal, 2 wires for unbalanced.

The ring is grounded when you insert a mono plug, or the other side has a mono (or mono-wired) socket - then the signal is unbalanced. There's no place for other plug types, this is what the Akai can use, and... that's it.

It's all about noise rejection. If it's done right - as it is on my MPC1000 - you don't get a different character of signal, it's not hotter etc. The balanced circuit at the receiving end cancels out noise that is picked up by both signal wires, but only if the signal is balanced coming in.

u guys are some bright asss muthafukas......
so pretty much i cant go wrong with getting 1/4 trs mogami cables to run out of the 2kxl and into a roland vs880???

or can i?????

Don't know the VS880... do the specs say balanced line? If so, you can be confident it'll work. Just remember: if either side is not Balanced, it will still work (sound will get across), but you don't get the noise rejection.

OK stereo, "you're the man now dog"...so, does that mean that
a mono plug has that ring, so it can reject noise as well, but if you jack a trs into a mono plug, it's the wrong steeze, so it won't reject? It looks like you were saying that mono has a ground if it's a mono jack and cable. I was confused. And furthermore, it seems plain, but you saying the MPC has balanced connections?

dam I bet ya ll confusing the hell out people cause I know the difference and ya ll confused me.....If your equipment is unbalanced there is no point in using balanced wires even if one of them is balanced becuase as soon as the signal hits the unbalanced input or out put the signal becomes unbalanced)unless u use a balance adapter)...The difference between balanced and unbalanced is balanced has 3 wires T(HI) R(low) S(Ground/shield) Or on XLR mic cables 2(hi) 3(low) 1(ground/ shield) on a balanced there is 2 signals going thru in opposite directions which at the end cancel noise out and the ground/shield keeps prevents the high frequency noise.
Unbalanced only has 2 wires center conducter and ground/shield the main problem with unbalanced is when the wire is longer then couple feet the EMI(electromagnetic interference) from power cables increases.which u here like humming, static and buzzing. Also ground loops are a problem between 2 units....If you use Unbalanced make sure to keep it to short length wires to prevent less noise.... I am out dough One

balance cables sound a little bit better but there isn't really that big of a difference. unless you are running long distance cable. at lest from what i have heard.
