Using Zip disk

so i purchased an MPC 2000xl which had an Atapi Zip 100 drive installed in it. I just received my first 100mb zip disk in the mail and i put it in but the machine doesn't seem to recognize it? when i try to load or save, it says "not ready!" and under "type" it says "=no disk."

You took the disc straight from the mail and palced it into the mpc thinking it was going to work right away?
Is the disk blank, where did it come from, was it supposed to be in mpc format to begin with, can you format it on the mpc, did you think of any of this already, you will have to use filenames that only have 8 characters and 3 letter extensions (8.3 format) and the disk will need to be in FAT format?

okay nah i didn't know any of this i've never actually used one. The disk is new from a store on Amazon. I'm not sure how to format it to an MPC i've never heard of that. i'm not sure what FAT formatted means either.

go into the mpc save/load screen and choose format.

FAT is a filesystem the mpc understands.
