okay, so you have the pad controller set up in fl studio to work (ir: fl knows you have it connected and it's enabled in the midi input menu)

right click the pitch knob in question for example if you have the original kick drum loaded at default.. click it and at the top of it's window it will be right there.. so right click it and choose "link to controller" ... now turn the knob on the mpd that you want to have controlling it and it will automatically be connected.

repeat with other buttons as desired, in fact you can make one mpd knob control several fl knobs.

yeah, in the pattern window.. just for experimenting click the KICK rectangle.. the window pops up (channel settings - kick) the third knob at the top is pitch.

right click it, you can then choose "link to controller"

when you then turn a knob or slide a fader it will detect it automatically.

there is another option that says "overide generic link" and that is for keeping the setting for all projects.. but dont do that now.

I highly suggest also that you find the image line youtube channel and subscribe to it because they always offer tips as well as they show features you may not have known about.

lastly, I made an fl tips thread that doesn't have much in it yet but there are some ideas in there you can play with when figuring out your workflow:
