I have an MPC 300 connected via MIDI ins and outs to a Motif ES6. Now, I recently aquired a rackmount module that I would also like to sequence via MIDI in the MPC. My question is, how do I connect said module to my MPC? Should I connect it via MIDI THRU on my Motif ES6? It's also important to mention, that I would like to play the sounds from the module with my Motif.

Any help as to how to integrate a rackmount module to the MPC + Motif combo would be really appreciated.

Oh ok... I got'cha, but there's still one thing I don't understand all these months later. You see, I'm trying to trigger the MIDI module with the Motif and also have the sounds of the Motif play back in the MPC sequence at the same time. Is this possible?

In other words, I would like to play the module via MIDI into the MPC sequencer, while sounds from the Motif are playing back in a sequence. How can I do this if LOCAL CONTROL on the Motif is set to off (all the sequenced Motif sounds will then be muted, won't they?).

Do I need to buy a MIDI keyboard controller just for the MIDI module or is there just something wrong with my MIDI connections or MIDI channel settings on the MPC, Motif and module?

Shouldn't the MPC be able to play back the Motif sounds and one of the module sounds at the same time?

you have to set your devices, or patches in your devices, to respond on different midi channels.

then you set each track in your mpc to output on a separate midi channel.

now my mpc is a little different (2kxl) so take this with a grain of salt...but i can hit open window on the track and choose to have midi thru set to 'as track' - which means whichever track i have selected, that is what my controller keyboard controls.

mpcs (especially the old ones) are some of the best midi sequencers ever created, you will be able to do all that you want.
(im trying to say you DONT need another keyboard controller)

Thanks for that, but I don't think this MIDI configuration works in my case because the Motif needs to trigger the module via MIDI, therefore the Motif must be connected to the module via MIDI.

I would like to have the module controlled by the Motif, and have both the Moitf and module sounds play back in the MPC sequencer at the same time.

the way arkyve described is correct.
the keyboard does not have to be connected directly to the module to trigger it. it will trigger it THRU the mpc.

hook it up like arkyve suggests, then try setting it up like i suggested. you will see.
motif midi out -> mpc
mpc midi out -> motif
mpc midi out -> module

you know thinking about it like that you don't even need to use different channels, you can just use the different outputs.

Midi is not audio so you need to route each gears audio out into a mixer/audio interface so you can hear it.

Midi performance data will be recorded on your mpc (Master) as per instructions from the good peeps above.

I just tried the MIDI connections provided by tapedeck and ArKyve - and they work!

I just had to be careful to assign the correct MIDI channels in the MPC (1B & 1B), which was confusing for a while. (The Motif is connected to MIDI Out A, and the module MIDI Out B).

Thanks everyone for bearing with me. 'ppreciate it.
