Extreme noob, Record button help

Hey guys, New to the forums and the Mpc world.

I recently bought an Mpc 4000 off ebay and im having trouble figuring
out how to use the record button.. The one on the bottom right of the unit. Basically i just want to know why it wont record what im playing when i push the button. When i push it it just turns off as soon as i take my finger off. So i am quite lost, cuz in all the tutorial videos when they teach you basic beat making they bi pass this.

Anyway HEEEEELLLPPP!

PLAY will start playing where you current play location is.
PLAYSTART will start you at the beginning.
OVERDUB will add onto whatever track your on.
REC will overwrite whatever track your on.

You might wanna check out the really useful manual and push the buttons
and play around while you read, it will all become clear as you go along.

no problem.

Have some patience, get into the manual, push the buttons and perform the actions
you read about. It may get dry sometimes but keep going and all the basics will come to you.

Later on when you are more comfortable and better adapted you combine those basics into advanced techniques.
