I am a young MPC user who is curious what I need to sample vinyl. I know I need a turntable but do I also need a mixer or a pre amp? If possible please post a list of equipment and cables I need to sample off of a TT as well as suggestions for good Turntables.

You can hook up the turntable straight to the Ren without a mixer. Look at the back and figure what cables you need or open the pdf manual on your software. And I mean read it!

Okay so I just bought a Technics 1210 MK2 and I hooked the RCA cables into my MPC Renaissance but I get no sound. I am running the Audio Output and Input through my Universal Audio Apollo Quad audio interface but it doesn't seem to be working. The dB indicator above the Mic In and Phono In seems to light up when I use the RCA to RCA but the levels meter doesn't even move to show that it's receiving a signal. Then when I use my RCA to TS 1/4 Monster Cables the dB indicator doesn't even move. I have a phono pre amp so now I'm not sure what to do. Can anyone help me please??

I thought the ren had a phono input (meaning you would not need a preamp, or 1/4" cables.. you run the turntable directly into the ren)

I guess you need to dive into the manual.

Thats cool the Ren has its own phono amp. I wonder if its like the MV where if you have the line inputs, the phono is ignored. It would've been better to select which input you want to sample from, instead of just analog or digital inputs.
