MPC Newbie - buying used MPC

Hi Y'all,

Ive just sold my Ableton Push and am joining the MPC world.

I have decided to go for the MPC 1000 and have two im currently looking at.

1) MPC 1000 - no upgrades included at all

2) MPC 1000 - has Fat Pads, JJOS1, 128Mb Ram, Wood sidepanels, Custom black wheel, blue LED's on sliders.


My main question is - will all the customization affect the MPC experience?

I know JJOS1 is a must have, but all the othersuff - fat pads, wood sidepanels etc.

It looks cool as, to be honest, but wanted to double check before making the purchase.

The 'customisations' you mention that actually affect your MPC would be the fat pads. I prefer these to the originals. If it has the fat pads then it must also have the 'new' pad sensors. This is also a good thing, as the original pad design on the MPC1000 was terrible, prone to insensitivity and ultimately these older pads failed relatively quickly.

JJOS1 is better than the Akai OS, and you can upgrade it further to JJOS2XL or OS3 for some more money, or downgrade to JJOS free or even the original Akai OS if you feel so inclined (the MPC will remember it has the JJOS1 password regardless).

128MB RAM is essential, but TBH you can buy the RAM for pennies these days - check the RAM topic in the MPC1000 forum for recommendations.

You don't mention pricing, so cannot comment, but generally speaking unless you can get confirmation from the seller that the MPC1000 has the newer style pads, I would avoid as the new style pad sensors cost approx £120 to add. But as I say, the custom MPC you mention must have the new pad sensors, as it's not possible to put fat pads on top of the old style sensors (where each pad is basically a self contained unit).

BTW, old style sensors can be found on both blue and black MPC1000's, so you do need to check.

£350 for the normal MPC 1000

£400 for the customized version.

As it has JJOS1 and fat pads etc & 8GB CF card then I think I'm going for this one. as JJOS1 alone is about £70 anyway i think.
