I don't know if anyone here has used the program Mixman, but I thought it was worth addressing.
When I first began making beats 6 years ago, I started with Mixman. I liked it because it had a really simple interface where you can load clips and turn them on/off as the beat progresses by starting a clip and "locking it" to repeat. for example, you could start the bass and drum tracks going, throw in a horn section for a few measures and then take it out by "unlocking" that clip really quick. Does anyone know if the MPC 1K or MPC 2K are anything like that?
What I mean is, when you assign clips to a pad on an MPC, can you "lock it" so it repeats over and over with the beat and then a couple measures later if you want to eliminate that one sound you can deactivate it and the sound stops but the rest of the clips you have activated keep going? This is more for an "on-the-fly" approach to composing and live performance.
If I'm being unclear in any way, please let me know. I'm very curious about this and would like to know if the MPC is a good fit for me. Thanks for your help in advance.
