Looking for first mpc to complement other gear, $ is an issu

...why not get an MPC 2000 classic (non Xl) with max ram and 8 outs and use the external zip drive I already have and use it as the brain of my setup? I have a fantom x, a 950, an ASR 10 and a MacBook so I will have tons of ways to make sounds that I can sample and arrange on the MPC. I like the idea of taking lots of sources but channeling them all into one simple interface so I can focus on the fun part which is solving the puzzle of making a song out of the mess. When I am done, save everything to zip disk (which is old school I know) and then dump everything to the MacBook for sharing, uploading, etc.

I have read tons of posts and blogs on the pros and cons of the various models but only having a few hundred kind of makes this simple, right? And if you are thinking why not sell my old gear to get a 4000, eh I am a pack rat and can't let go that is why.

There may be a giant flaw to this approach. If anyone sees it please let me know what I might run into that will kill this.

By the way, prior to my recent decision to get an mpc I have not paid much attention to MPC resources like this forum but man you guys are so lucky to have such an active and helpful community. It is good to know there is so much information out there.

I kind of had the same problem and it basically disturbed my workflow.
All kinds of old gear is cool to have but a pain in the a** sometimes.
I just replaced my Roland VS 1680 for Roland VS 1824 with a built-in CD-RW.
This way i can burn (is this old school?) single tracks and beats to my computer.....problem solved.

You can go that route if maintenance isn't an issue because a new screen is worth another 2000 (MPC that is...) and zip drives are murder. But thats my devil's advocate view on your situation.

Anything from an MPC500, MPC1000, MPC2500 and if you do see one cheap; the MPC4000 will set you straight, maybe slap you silly too.
