NEWBIE in DISTRESS, NEWBIE in DISTRESS

Yo, i just got my mpc 2000xl, so im new to all this stuff. Ive read some of the post but most of it seems chinese. could someone please get me a quick rundown of how to hook up my external zip drive.

for the past couple of weeks ive been doing beats, then throwing them away. i somewhat know how to save sounds on on floppy, but i just got a external zip drive and my common sense plus the manual aint addin up.

Couple of questions/ problems:
Please bear w/ me

1. when i turn on the machine, and it loading, it says "no SCSI device" before, it even gets to the main screen. is that normal?

2. when i go to the disk mode screen, and i try to change the device, i can only shuffle throught the different SCSI's once, then im back to the only options of SCSI-1, floppy, or flash.

3. When i try to format the SCSI, which i pretty much know i not supposed to without it being doin anyway, after i press "do it", it says error OOOO:D144. what' s that?

4. i may sound like a ****head, but isn't the cable on the zip drive supposed to be on the zip(left) side?

5. i noticed in the manual, on pg 155, the partition size is 100M, the
parts: A-A, and the Ver.=D.08
mine says partition size=050, Parts:A-Y, and the Ver.=D.144(i think)
wassup wit that?

Are u sure u have a SCSI zip drive ?

Does it have a little switch on ther back that lets you select the SCSI ID (5 or 6) and or a terminator switch ? (which must be set to on if the zip is the only device connected to your mpc 's SCSI port )

Does your SCSI zip work with other machines ?
Does the SCSI port on your 2KXL work ?

i dont know what a termination switch is, but it does have the SCSI id option 5 or 6, and an on/off button next to that.

i believe it has to be the right one, because went i try take the disk out, it wont even show the info in the SCSI-1 option.

i ordered my mpc2000, off ebay, w/ the zip drive, zip disks full of sounds/samples, and the manual. the guy i ordered from sold a 2000, and a 2000xl on the same day. he accidently put my manual, and zip disk in the box for the xl he sold ( his ebay feedback rating way 100% w/ over 300 sales, so i believed him). it took about 3 weeks to get the disk, and manual. during the three weeks i learned how to get around the 2000 (i downloaded the xl manual of the net), but (tell me am i a ****head) i traded the 2000 for the xl, a yamaha mixer, and an eq(both brand new).
The guy owns a studio, with crazy equipment (including a 4000, 1000, triton extreme 61, and a fantom X8). he said he just always wanted a 2000.

How come that doesn't seem right? Is there anything wrong with the 2000xl? If not thats a good deal, but a confusing one at that.
