Hello everyone my name is Tyran aka "Black Ty Affair" and i'm a newbie producer....(sorry that it sounds like some AA "ish"). First and foremost i'd to thank the creator of this most helpful tool and all of the members for the links and helpful insights that have guided me to feel like i'm making strides on my path to being a sucessful producer.
Tired of the drama of working just get by in life, I decided that i was gonna give it "that ole college try" and try this music thing, so i bought a MPC 4k (whoa!!!). Initially, i tried to embark on a transaction on Ebay for a used one, but i got beat by the seller. At first i took it as a sign that maybe it wasn't meant to happen, then i snapped out of it as realized i can't let this stop me. So i ended up financing one, which i am still paying for til this day. I had got an LE which at the time, I didn't realize that it was the factory version compared to the fully loaded ones with the disk drives, more memory, and the outs(as much money as I am paying I think Akai beat me on that one...but it's all good..i learned a lesson...do your homework other mewbies!!!).
Anyhow, as soon as got it in the mail. I believed in my heart that my humdrum life as a Construction Laborer had made a 180. I took it over to my musical mentor, who had guided me down the path to getting my gear( what up Geo in Edison, NJ!!!!). I left it with him so he could play with it and help me figure it out..I couldn't do nothing with it being that i didn't have a turntable or a decent pair of headphones...lol, just the 4k!!
So after a week or so i got a turntable and headphones and my man just told me to play with it and read the user guide. Wow, i'm really not a technical person so most of stuff in the beginning was just using my ear and some common sense. Then from time to time i wouldn't turn it on cause i was too tired from work, or running around because at the time i was expecting my 2nd son, Justus.
Miserable at work one day I decided that i wasn't gonna waste this opportunity to embark on my dreams. I bought a couple of general beatmaking books, and i found this forum, and i was so elated to find people asking questions that i wanted to know the answers to, and having the same frustrations that i have. None of my friends for the exception of my man Geo is involved in this music thing on a professional level, and after i got the 4k it was hard catching up to him...he was hopeful and wanted to pursue producing as a career during the "Golden Age" of hip-hop. Now he is a little discouraged..cause the game changed so drastically. I tell you this because when i got a primary sequence for a joint that i'm trying to get him to listen to, i don't get the enthusiasm from him like i used to 10 years ago. It's ill. I love that dude, he aint giving up..he's just doing it for the love of Hip-Hop now!! Listening to his SP 1200 bangers at 3 AM is definately why I am here now, so i am always in debt to him!!
I feel in my heart that i have talent for this game, I'm just trying not to get discouraged and trying to stay focused, talk to other users, and producers in general so i can get a strangle hold on this bizness. Real hip-hop is coming back and i want to be apart of that movement, so i'm striving. I know everyone says it, but I got some real hot joints...but i also got a lot to learn and with your help and guidance we could get to that Hip-Hop Promise Land together.
Once again thank you guys for the "heads up", i really wanna build with some of you online and in the physical ( I'm in Queens, so Holla) maybe we can prosper somewhere down the line.
